First commercial order of recycled polyethylene ships from NOVA

NOVA Chemicals has delivered the first commercial order of its newly launched SYNDIGO™ rPE-IN3 recycled polyethylene (rPE), marking an important step forward in expanding access to high-quality recycled materials. The nearly 200,000-pound railcar shipment has arrived at Sigma Plastics Group in Shelbyville, Kentucky, where it will be used to manufacture stretch film products.

This milestone highlights growing momentum in the use of recycled polyethylene for demanding film applications. Sigma Plastics will incorporate SYNDIGO rPE-IN3 into its stretch film offerings, including the Sustain360 PCR product line. These films, available for both manual and machine applications, are widely used for pallet wrapping in retail distribution centers, warehouses, and logistics operations.

SYNDIGO rPE-IN3 enables what is often referred to as “like-to-like” recycling, where used stretch film is processed and remade into new stretch film. This represents a significant advancement in mechanical recycling and supports a more circular approach to plastic use.

NOVA Chemicals emphasizes that the material delivers the high-performance standards customers expect, ensuring consistency and reliability for converters and end users alike. Sigma Plastics shares this commitment, integrating post-consumer recycled content into its Sustain360 films without compromising strength, quality, or performance.

With multiple gauge options available, Sustain360 PCR films are designed to meet the efficiency, and containment demands of modern stretch wrapping operations. Both companies continue to prioritize sustainability, working together to reduce waste and develop innovative packaging solutions.

This first shipment not only reflects a strong, ongoing partnership between NOVA Chemicals and Sigma Plastics Group, but also underscores their shared commitment to advancing circular solutions in flexible packaging.
